Runaway Cyclic Trim

I was helping my mate to trim out his Trex 700 F3C heli over the weekend. He has it setup VERY tame, way too tame for me anyway. I lifted up into a hover and all was fine. I gave it a little 'up' elevator trim and would you believe it, the darned trim just ran away to full up! Now remember, this heli is set up with very little cyclic throws (He wants it that way).

I now have a 700 pitching nose up and coming towards me. I am sitting with full forward cyclic but still can't the nose down. Quick thinking had me whipping the tail around and the heli nose in towards me. Of course now it was still nose up, but facing away from me and moving away. I punched in some collective and gained some altitude and was then able to rectify the trim.

Upon investigation I found that the elevator trim on his DX7 sticks, hence the runaway trim. One more thing to add to the pre-flight checklist.

Nice save, that could have been a bit of a disaster, or worse still, some serious injury.
