I have decided to build my own Gimble system for my QAV500.
Here are the motors I have ordered.
2804-100T Brushless Gimbal Motor (Ideal for GoPro to Compact Style Cameras) - Gimbal Brushless Motor - RCTimer RC Plane Car MultiRotor APM and MultiWii Carbon Fiber Propeller Hobby Store
$23 plus a couple of bits of plastic should have me up and running.
Better than $209 for the official upgrade, which i'm sure is good, but i have plans for that money for other projects.
Can't wait to get this set up.

I tryed a gimble last summer. It was one that I found on e bay. Cheep little thing. Didn't work worth a crap. Had more vibrations than you can make on purpose. I also made one too! It didn't work iether!

Good luck building one yourself. I don't have the right tools for the job.

I've been watching many videos online, and it seems a lot of people had good luck. What control unit did you use for stabilisation Sam?

I hooked it up with my ikon cause it has a gimble circuit built into it. I just used some medium grade servos. In it. The ikon works with regular servos.
