DIY DJI 3 standard

I have a spare DJI 3 standard. I was thinking about taking the electronics out and put it on a smaller and slimmer frame. My question is, if it can be done, would the electronics be confused in another frame? They all have GPS, return home, self leveling and of course the camera gimbal. I don't want to take it apart unless I know that the electronics will work. Yes, I know about the DJI drone but not for $1000.00 I'm not going to purchased that.
