Quad Drone Identity

Hi all, not normally my section but a friend asked me if I can help him with a problem he's having.

1. He doesn't have any documents apart from a single sheet about the FPV operation.
2. I've got no idea what it is exactly. See the two photos attached. It carries an ID X56F and a serial #01/01/2014.

Before I take it to bits or just tell him it's a dud any help would be appreciated.

Looking at the motor housings I would guess that it's a re-badged SYMA or JJRC you may get a better idea once you get it apart, I had to do the same for my brother in-laws quad, parts are cheap and by the time I got the correct gears I had ordered about 4 different sets 3 of which were wrong for a total cost of about $10.

Hi Keith, good to hear from you again. It's been a long time since we corresponded on something. Maybe you can help to point me in the right direction.

The first thing I noticed is that the two 'A' motors don't work when it starts up and when the throttle is eased up, it seems to be locked in a roll (I think forwards) as when I hold it in my hand with low throttle and turn it round through each axis the two motors do actually work.

I've clicked around a bit on the Tx. and can't see any indication of what the trim positions are. The screen seems to only show the FPV when initialised and only the camera controls when not. Any help will be much appreciated before I get my screwdriver out

Sorry Tony, I must be missing something here can't see the connection to DJI ?

However what I did find when following through on the ID was a drone that looks identical with a different brand and colour it is 5.8G FPV as well so it should be the one.

Hi Phil, I'm still going with re-badged Syma or JJRC by the prop and the motor nacelles design. To go any further you are going to have to strip it down, hopefully the motors will either be broken wires or burnt out they will only be brushed motors and cheap to replace, if that doesn't fix the problem you would probably have to replace the main board which is also not expensive I replace a Syma board for A$7.00 including postage. You should be able to get information off the main board that will help you identify the replacement parts needed. Banggood have a good range of spare for both Syma & JJRC.

The motors are working as I mention earlier. It's beginning to sound like the board. I'll get back asap when I've had a look-see.

Hi all,

Here's a photo of the board. It looks to me that the copter also needs a set of four drive gears as some teeth are missing.

Is it best to simply order the parts up and replace as they are so cheap anyway?

Hi Phil, That board is used several Brands both Revell and W L Toys among them, they probably all came out of the same factory though. The manufacture date on the board is 2015 I doubt that the actual Quad is still available or if it is you will have trouble finding it as there are literally thousands to sift through.

I have attached photos of two types of gears I'm hoping that one of these will fit your quad.

Hi Keith, they look a bit too heavy to me. I've taken a photo of one of the gears. It looks like the gearwheel can be changed without the shaft. I'll count the number of teeth, measure the diameter and see what I can come up with.

Not really like any I've seen before, I've never seen the block with the screw before, if the gear was removable it was only friction fit.

You may need to get as close as possible and do some modifying you would need to know Diameter, number of teeth and shaft size, bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Hi again Keith, looks like 100 teeth, 30 mm O/D and 3 mm diameter shaft. I'm waiting for some feedback from the original supplier who says that they do still have some stuff left somewhere. I'm not holding my breath on this and will probably end up just throwing it away.
