General Helical antennas

Does anyone here have any experience with the helical antennas for FPV goggles?

Hey there Jared. Yes I have experience and like them very well. Here's one of the helical I use for my goggles TrueRC 5.8GHz X-AIR (RHCP)

Does it perform well enough to replace my patch antenna?

This is the type I'm referring to:

Compare helical antenna with patch antenna for 5.8Ghz FPV system. Directional antenna has longer range but narrower beam, cloverleaf are onmi directional.

Does it perform well enough to replace my patch antenna? Yes it does but remember it's a directional antenna. The more turns, the longer range you get but your beam gets narrower. The one your showing is 5 turns. Mine is 3 turns which is more suitable for what I need it for. I wouldn't go no bigger then 5 turns my self. Unless your flying a plane so more turns the better.

If it matters, I do have the 50 ohm terminator on my antenna.

Leave that antenna on the goggles then. That's a good one . Don't need to up grade.

I'm not sure what your using for a Omni antenna but that hybrid triple feed directional is about the same as my True rc directional. I'm going to try a different omni antenna. VAS SkyHammer 5.8GHz SMA Receiver Antenna - RHCP or LHCP this has a little more gain then the one I'm using now.
