General Talon 90

Hi guys and gals I have a problem with my Talon 90 and need a bit of help please. I changed my Raptor 600 from old DX7 to my new NX10 and when it bound all was good except the Esc did not work, I then thought it might be that I had to calibrate the throttle so tried that and now all I get is the motor stuttering and not spooling up. I have the Castle Creations link to reset the Esc so when I tried to put it back to factory settings the motor started to spool up and stopped within about 2 seconds and the motor sites got pretty quickly and motor as well. I tried to reset the castle link so that I could change settings but the link would not link with the Esc. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help and support.

I can't think of anything. Was the ESC new? And what controller on the Raptor? And what did you mean here? "the motor sites got pretty quickly and motor as well."

I'll go in a completely different direction just in case so you have more than one thing to look at etc...

You said the CC link didn't connect to the ESC. That could also point at a USB port or cable problem. I'll start with the cable... 1st make sure you are using a USB data cable and not a power only cable ( used just for charging ). Cables are also know to go bad, so test with a different known good one as well. Next possible culprit which can also go bad but less likely... the computer's USB port itself. You can test by plugging something else into the same port to see if it is detected, I'd suggest a USB flash drive ( aka thumb drive ) since those don't usually requires cables. An external USB drive can also help but then you are also required a known good cable.

No the ESC isn’t new as it was working fine on the Spectrum DX7 Radio. I changed Raptor from Dx7 to Spektrum NX10 and everything went well except the Talon 90 it did not initialize, so I tried to recalibrate the throttle as if it was a new esc.
Today I swapped another model ( Raptor E 550 ) to the Spektrum NX10 and had the same problem, the esc not initializing. I tried to calibrate it but would not start. It said in the instructions for Talon to change the zero point to 25% and wind it back towards zero until it made a beep to recognize zero in the radio. I got it to work “ sort of” I think the governor is switched as the throttle started and went to a set rpm ( I think ) the revs never changed with the movement of the stick. At least it worked so I can use T/Hold to get it off the ground and auto down from a few feet, still have to check the 600 Raptor if the problem is fixed the same way.
Thanks for all your help

I always hate going through the throttle calibration steps, so I think this is the right direction to be looking at. The minor differences in the throttle travel on the radio even from the same model radio... is probably the main cause of this being such a pain. The radio is not what is causing your motor / esc to get hot... being at a higher throttle setting would cause that which makes getting the calibration step correct so critical.

I know a motor running at around 75% will make the wires and motor hot to the touch. I also know the term "hot to the touch" is subjective and everyone seems to have a different idea of what that is... but I have no way to say it any other way that wouldn't also be subjective.

So I'll will say this another way... The radio isn't at fault, it would be the calibration steps to completed properly that is at fault ( if I'm guessing correctly based on your descriptions ). I don't know what to suggest to help since you also have a controller between the receiver and ESC. So perhaps one of the others here more familiar with a heli setup can help describe it here since I don't think it's the same as a plane without a controller in the mix.
