Today, I pulled my smallest quad off the wall and grabbed a battery and weighed it. 256 grams. 7 grams over to not register it. So I was like, okay, it can't take that much to get back into having everything to fly.... I was so wrong. I check today on what is required to operate a "UAS" legally and my jaw hit the floor. But first, lets say I take the 850mah 4s battery and I go to an 800mah 4s battery, that will likely save the 6-7 grams that will make it legal to where it does not require registration, and most importantly, doesn't require a tracking device. Yea, that part really hit me the wrong way as all of this has since day one. But lets say I get it to 249g and yah, no registration. I can fly right... well sort of.... Yes, I can fly it, but I can't video it and place it on YouTube as that is considered "commercial" and for that, not only does it have to be registered, it has to have a tracking device AND you have to pass part 107 which is $175 each time you take the test. Can I post to a non monetized channel and get around this, sure. Can I remove all monetization from the RCH channel and post there. Nope, it's still a monetized channel. Okay, things over 250 grams need a tracking device. They are like $40. I have over 20 "UAS'" that would require tracking devices. Granted, I can move them around and no way am I flying most at any given time. But I fly at my house 99.9% of the time. NO way in hell I'm putting a tracking device on my "TOY" just to have a rip in the front yard. Such BS. What in the hell happened to this hobby? I got into it to have fun. That turned into Have Fun And Teach People. And in order to do that, I have to have more licensing than an ultralight pilot, to fly a damn toy. I am absolutely blown away at the amount of regulation that has been put on these things. This truly is "Punish The Many For The Faults Of The Few"
