Comrades,
Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself. I am pleased to be able to join a group of like minded folks whom have and are building a passion for this intricate and involved world we call R/C. I remember the first remotely controlled helicopter I had ever seen. I believe I was 7 at the time. It was a gargantuan beast of complexity, belching smoke and drowning out all other sounds in its vicinity.
My grandfather had taken me to a school field, where other old crotchety buzzards were attempting to perfect the art of not crashing. I was quiet young and though there were many aircraft present, I was fascinated by the flying eggbeater and the magical properties it seemed to possess.
I had always been the type of kid that would create a pile of parts from a new Walkman the week after Christmas, first cassette, then laser disc.. I thought it a clever use of rubber bands, how the engineers chose to drive the components within.
The physical world has always intrigued me with its mysteries and revelations.
Having good direction was missing at times but I feel fortunate to have had a father that helped to fuel my interests. Though, at times By default, as dad began his career as a field technician for a company that manufactured, installed and serviced high speed mailing machines. Lots of suction cups, sprockets, belts, pulleys, motors, electronics, etc. Some setups as long as a football field.
I find myself at 42 being blessed with the gift of raising a beautiful family and spending some/many of my evenings in the shop researching info, flying the sim and setting up helis.
It is not without its complexities and I am happy to have found a group to share my struggles, obstacles, perseverance, failures and victories with.
Thanks for giving me a place to ramble.. I look forward to continued learning
