Kits 6s FunJet Ultra Build

Well I got a fun Jet a while back and thought I would do a build thread on my Build...

I will be glassing and adding a few extra things on my build. It want be a stock setup.

So here is a list of the parts I am using.
Turnigy SK3 Fandrive - 3659-1900kv (90mm EDF)
Yes an edf motor turning a prop... the reason was it is rated for 1770 watts but with good cooling it will be pushing more like 2000+.
Hobbyking SS Series 190-200A ESC
I should be pulling in the 100 to 120amp range.
Corona DS939HV Digital Metal Gear Servo 2.8kg/ 12.5g/ 0.12sec
These servos seem to work very well and seem to be pretty strong for what I am doing.
I will be using a Castle Creations Switching BEC
That way I can adjust he voltage a little higher for my digital servos to 7.2 volts giving them a little more torque.
Thunder Power G6 2700mAh Pro Power 6S 22.2V 65C Lipo Pack I wanted to spend a little extra
and get a battery I know would last and handle the power I would be pushing...
Aeronaut Propellers CAM Electric 7x7
But for my maiden I will use a 6x6 Graupner Cam prop to check temps on my power system. Don't want to push it to hard till I get use to flying it
and get it all trimmed in.
I will be replacing the stock motor mount for this one....Motor Mount w/Screws: FunJet ULTRA
The metal mount will be much stronger and also act as a heat sink for the motor.

Here are a few pics of my parts..

Got the wings glued on and started sanding all the extra injection molding bumps off the plane.
Also filled in all cracks and holes to make it nice and smooth before I glass the plane.
I used Fast 'n Final® Lightweight Spackling
Also used white gorilla glue on the main spar, and filled all gaps with spackle.

As you can see in the last picture, I added an extra cooling vent to put air flow right over where my esc will be mounted.
It will have better shape when I finish sanding the groove

Just got 2 pics of the extra vent I cut into the plane.
I will also be cutting between the 2 vents to give better access to were the esc will be.
By adding an extra hatch..

Thanks... it should be fun to fly....
Oh yeah BTW I built a bungee launcher a while back and thought this would be a good plane to use it with.
Also have an F-16 to get started on... to many projects to little time LOL

Thanks Lee.... I hope it screems :encouragement:

Well got a little more done on the plane...
Added flat carbon to the trailing edge of my elevons and air frame.
Just wanted to make sure nothing would flex or distort.

Also added a little flat carbon under the control horns. This should help
extend the stress area and make the control horn more ridgid where it ties
to the elevon. Cut a slot in the control horn and in the plane where they bond together.

Got the bungee hook cut out of G-10 fiberglass and glued in place. I placed it 4 to 5 inches in front of the CG.
Should make for a good smooth lanuch.

Yep but it will slow down over the next few days.... glassing takes a while...
Glass the bottom half let it dry glass the top side let it dry, glass the canpoy let it dry ect... LOL
then sand and coat it all over again hahahah

Oh yeah I will be using minwax polycrylic and silk span
The water based Minwax will evaporate so it want add that much weight...
But will make for a nice smooth surface, then the ELAPOR Foam of the FunJet will take paint better..

You can see in the next two pics where I cut the esc cover and made another access hole.
I used a hobby stick for the front hold down, and magnets on the rear of the hatch.

Really nice job so far Craig. Have you estimated what the top speed will be? My Fun jet was good for 120MPH. I would expect 150 from this set up.

With the 6x6 I was thinking 150 to 165... I know this setup can hit over 200 with the 7x7 or at least very close to it..

Here is what I got done today...
It really turned out pretty smooth...

Ready for paint and some custom graphics....
I have a friend that cuts vinyl for a living, he always helps make my planes look cool..
going to do a bright orange.... on white

Looks really nice Craig! Fast, sleek! I had to send my NAZA back. GPS went. There shipping me a new one! Still cost my a buck and a half in crash damage though!

Ahem, I'm sure you will get her up there, spend a minute trimming it out, and then with each pass, get progressively faster and faster until you are at full throttle. And all on the first battery hahaha. Okay, so that is only me...

That's easy to do on a trainer, this is not a trainer LOL
I did get it in the air today, I had a little to much throw so I was not to smooth on the first flight.
But I did get a few good passes in. I was watching the video and all passes were made without WOT in a dive.
I leveled out then punched it. So in a dive I bet it will really scream...

I will try to get a video loaded in a few...
