Good day everyone. Well, You have probably seen this series, but I wanted to put it on this forum. In this series, I will walk you through every single step that I went through to take apart, prep, paint, and even the backlight install. This is a rather long series, cause there are a lot of steps in the process. But, if you decide to do this, you will love the outcome. and yes, you can do this. It's not that hard. So, sit back, grab some  and enjoy!

In this episode, I walk you through taking out all of the electronics inside the case, and getting it ready to paint.

In this episode, I go over all of the paint supplies and the different spray guns that I used to do all of the painting on this Transmitter.

Here is Part 3. In this video, I prep the case, and put the black base on it. But, sadly I won't be able to keep it on there...

Re-runs with a RC-Help twist ... Did you call "Star Wars" with the new digital effects a "re-run" when George Lucas brought them back to the screen? Didn't think so :biggrin1:

Every video from the DX6i Customization series is now posted in the first post. Check them out and let me know what you think. And, if you decide to do this to your Tx, let me know if you need any help.

I am thinking about ordering more backlight kits so I would rather not give out my supplier at this time. If you are in the US, I can let you know when I get them if I order them though.

So put me down for a backlight kit. I am in south florida, grtting old and can't read the display on this thing and the backlight seems like the ticket

a little old, but oh well..

i found this via another forum discussing el panels(hidplanet.com--primary focus is automotive lighting, though this thread was about adding a el backlight to a spektrum dx3s) where the part 5 backlight video was posted as a reference, and so far, i have been extremely dissapointed in the brightness of the el panels i have tried so far. they have been way too dim to be usable for all but very dark rooms.

i was wondering if you could give me some ideas for locating some brighter el panels-- most of my projects require much larger panels then what the video references, and i just can't seem to locate any. thanks!

I am on the lookout for more and better EL panels and inverters. The last company I used would not back up the problems they had and exchange the bad ones. So I dropped them as a supplier and I'm looking again. If I find something, I will be posting it here in this thread. What size were you needing, and what is your input voltage?

i haven't nailed down how i want to use it, so not sure on the size, so i guess the bigger the better. i can always cut it down later. and i am really not picky on input voltage, as long as it is dc. i have plenty of sources for buck/boost converters/regulators so anywhere from 1v to 36v can work.

Good deal. When I find my new supplier, I will post up in here and let you know. Be sure to subscribe to this thread with email notifications so you know when I post. I'm pretty sure that I can get a sheet that is about 6"x4", not sure on getting bigger though, but I will be looking.

Hey Tony, any news on the backligt kit? I am very interested in this kit. I have very good soldering skills, coiple years ago I built mini3 headphonephone amplifier ;)
What is the price of such kit? I found some plug n play kits on eBay for 60 and one with soldering for 15, what would be your price?
Thanks,
Kamil

At this time, I don't have a price because I can't find a good supplier. More than likely I'm going to close all of the threads, and remove all videos that pertain to purchasing a backlight from me or RCH. I just don't have the time to make them anymore, nor do I have the time to take orders, ship them, and deal with any returns. If I had the time, I would be all over it, but that's life sometimes lol.

That's fine, I totally understand the lack of time.
I will look elsewhere and maybe I will give this $15 eBay kit a shot.
