That would actually be cavitation which is extremely damaging to hydraulic parts. But also moisture.

I know what cavitation is when it comes to a boat prop but not familiar with hydraulic cavitation...

It's the same thing. Bubbles introduced to the system.

Lol, we all have those days. But yea, same as on a prop, it just pits the crap out of the metal where all of the bubbles generally hit under high pressure.
