Cheers Admiral. last time I flew 3GX I was running 3.1 and it tipped my 450 over on spool up on third pack. so ill flash it to 4.0 for test flights.

when i rubbed the skids down, after painting in epoxy, some of the epoxy chipped of the leading edge of the skids. I have left them like that so that the areas can be weathered to simulate a hard landing in brush (maybe ???).

Hi Dan, V4 had changes to the firmware to improve takeoff, how ever is still don't think that it is as good an AR7200BX, the 450 Pro Pod & Boom still does a little dance skid to skid on lift off but is great once in the air.

Dan v4 on the 450 is not a great idea, tail is really nasty, if not set up perfect in rate mode,

some 450l users say its ok but most people have gone back to v3.1,

I did as my tail would not work right with V4 until I redone it in rate mode but then it had bounce issues, just did not fill me with any confidence to fly it, stick with 3.1 I would, and double layer of gyro tape to isolate it a little more.

ive not fitted the gyro get but was planning on putting it on align gyro gel and cable tying it down with some silicone tube, because of possible vibes from the fuse.
So i will stick with 3.1 then (for testing) and see how the tail holds as im geared up to run a HS of around 2200. Ive got a set of Edge carbon blades on the tail now and have a pair if protos 500 kdbb tail blades (4mm root) in my project box, for if there isnt enough tail authority.
Or theres always MCPx blades and a dremel (haha!!!!!).

with 3.1 just make sure you liftoff quickly. 3.1 does not like being on the ground during spool up.

I have not had 3.1 tip on me.

well unless my bad programming counts,

anyway even if I leave it a few seconds spooled up its not got that feeling its gonna tip over quickly, but I get mine in the air as soon as its spooled up enough just to be on the safe side.

thanks for you input guys i'll give 3.1 a go.

Work has been a little slow today regarding the fuse ive given it a flat so its ready for marking up now. and ive made a start on the DIR setup, but need to get some batteries for my pitch gauge (it must have been on in my tool box).

The weather report for the morning is looking good so ive checked over the protos and the 150, charge their packs and am looking forward to getting some stick time in the after work.

sorry guys no pics again and even worse no video, ive been sorting the mechanics out. Im running the 3GX v3.1, 450mx motor, 4 blade head (stock blades for now), 150t maingear, 11t pinion @ flat 80% TC.

Had a test spool up in the garden all seemed to be ok so i lifted her off and had 30 seconds or so tail in hover. Its dark here now so i didint want to risk anything more than a hover.

Im going to speak to my camera man later and find out when he will be free to record the mechanics maiden, hopefully it will be in the next couple of days

Its looking like a thursday morning maiden weather pemiting. So should have the video uploaded Thursday afternoon some time.
I
need to reduce the cyclic to 6deg and cyclic to 8deg due to the extra blades and I need to check the swash phase is perfect.

LOL, ive got to fabricate a mounting bracket, im thinking of cutting an old 450 blade grip in half, using the bolt hole to fix to the fuse and gluing the gun where the bearings go. ive got a couple of tarot grips off an old FB head ready to be chopped up,
I dont know how i ever lived without a dremel.

got to maiden the mechanics this morning. there was a couple of things that i noticed there is a slight elev chatter while hovering and if hard collective is applied then the tail blows out. im not too bothered by this at the moment as these arent the blades that are going to be on the bird. initial test was more to see if the head speed is ok.

Sorry for the quality of the video its been lovely clear mornings all week and the one morning that we shoot video theres fog like pea soup, hope you all enjoy despite the bad visibility.

ive just done some calculations and it looks like i was running a HS of around 2000rpm @ 80% throttle so my next filght i will try bumping it up to 90% TC which should give a HS of around 2240 rpm im hoping that this will give the tail abit more authority.

ive started some work on the T tail, in the shots its assembled dry just to get an idea of the angles.

Once epoxied the tip of the black carbon section will sit higher, then it can all be primed and detail added (ribs and rivets).

It had cleared here this afternoon when i got up (15:00 i work nights) Lee. We had to record the video this morning as my camera man is unavailable until next week and i was far too excited to postpone.

Im really enjoying the build Lee, this is the first scale ive ever done, the first modelling of any kind really (i might apply for a job on Blue Peter, now wheres that sticky back plastic?).

Ive epoxied the tail and its all held together with cable ties and a hair bobble, i will check it in the morning after work.
