What Did You Do Today???

Today is another weekend day full of floor replacing in my grandmas house. If I don't finish it today, I think I might just not make it...
 
You can do it! It's not an easy task, especially with your bad back but you can't leave your me-ma floor less. It might take longer then you want but you'll get it done :).
 
Yea , her house was build in '83 and with the sub floor of particle board, the floor was gone. The carpet was the only reason no one fell through it. Last weekend I did the high traffic area just to make it safe to get to the sink's and shower. Today, is the rest of the room so we can put the furniture back in the room. I'm gonna be hurting lol.
 
Floors are easy and hard. If it's just you then it's even more tough. Good luck. You doing .5 inch sub floor then laying a new floor?
 
Nah, we are doing .75" sub and padding/carpet over it that was there. It's pretty new carpet. I don't understand that either lol.
 
while you guys are talking flooring, what is the best way to get squeaks out ? we have one spot in our Hallway that is just getting annoying

If you can get underneath the floor through some sort of crawl space, T-brace the floor joist or run a rat run from one end to another. That's IF you can get to the floor joist.
 
The other way is to find the area that is squeaking. It is likely where two boards come together. Just pull back the carpet of flooring and drive in a few screws. If you can secure the top board, it will stop squeaking.

The floor that I was working on is now done. I do not have a carpet stretcher so we will have to hire that one out to put the carpet back. Not a huge job and happy to pay to have it done. And yea, hurting a bit. Couple days and it will be all good.
 
Find out if it is where two pieces come together. If it is, you will not be able to fix it from under. It will have to be done from the top. Even taking a saw and running down the seam to open it up with just the kerf of the blade will stop the noise. But, this does depend on what kind of flooring you have too.
 
Find the squeak, then find the joist. The run a deck screw in. Now if your not redoing the floor then find the loose nails and rest them.

Seriously, glad you are taking care of her. That says a lot and that is what true family does. I looked after my Big Mama until she passed. Fixed her car, took her fishing, etc. You only have them once.

Not that much on computers, or carpentry, but I beat my way through plumbing.

I do understand valve overlap, duration, and lift. I can spin a pretty mean wrench. Not from today, but I was planing on running it as I just did some more adjustments. I HATE it when you cannot get full throttle. But tomorrow it is foretasted to rain.

BTW I have chased my tail several times on this as it is nothing like an SBC (engine). Google that! :rotflmao:

 
It is easy with the right tools. My problem now is the retro fit from MFI to carbs. The geometry is off . I need to jack the car up to access the linkage and adjust. To do it right with a floor jack and jack stands will take longer than the adjustment. It is a passion. As is my RC infatuation from way back.
 
Had standard charcoal started in a chimney. The followed up with soaking wet cherry wood. Smoked for about 1.5 hours at around 250. The temps last night made it hard to get the temp up without a flame.
