I hear that Tony, Thats why I moved to Germany in 91, I knew somethin was gonna go pop sometimes, and now it looks like my whole family from N.Y. to Ca are getting whooped on now,
But I know , it wont take long to hit over here, it happens like that, Hopefully they might pull off a bargain, and just lay some off till the times get better.

GOOD LUCK Man

Well the good news is, i"m at work and I still have a job, for now. However, half of the military personnel that is on this base do NOT have jobs. Some of them are here working for free. Complete BS if you ask me.

Well, how many times did you help a friend, and didnt get a buck, I do that all the time at work, I'll come in and work on a sunday, for nothing, and yes, for my boss man.
If it wasnt for my job, I wouldn't have my house, my kids wouldn't have there cars, and most of all, I wouldn't have my HELI'S...
So, look on the bright side, We could be in a war that nobody understands, and not get paid for it, now that would really suck.
Thats just how I would look at it.

Hopefully this shutdown will be short lived. What sucks about these shutdowns is that it is blanket, instead of more selective.

<begin rant="">[begin rant]

There is a ton of overreach, waste and abuse in the federal government and through all the programs run out of it. They could and should eliminate half the garbage they do and the people employed to "do" it, along with the tax revenue that supports it. Some of it would be taken up by the states, as it should be, but most is cruft and waste and more or less run as a federal work program that doesn't even do much of anything useful. Even in the military budgets there is a lot of room to cut back and do things more efficiently (more in the weapons programs than in the base and staffing end of things, given how much has been cut back in those areas over the last couple decades). That said, military should be last on the list of those affected by this kind of thing, particularly active duty. No doubt the IRS, Dept of Ed, HHS, EPA, and a myriad of others are still operating at 80% staffing levels or better, being so critical to the running of the nation and all. <yak>

Our congress (I refuse to call them leaders) has forgotten the art of compromise. This country is too large and diverse for any extreme viewpoint to exist. They are either going to have to learn how to compromise and negotiate like gentlemen again or this country is going to split itself apart along ideological lines. The person I voted into congress is voting how I want him to, the problem is that the congressperson from another state is voting how their constituents want them to also. Instead of meeting in the middle and working out a deal, the just keep toeing the party line and making the gridlock worse. The worst part is that anyone who does compromise is labeled a "Traitor" and voted out ASAP. I'm really starting to worry about the future of this country.

You can have your soapbox back now. :)

Lincoln let the sparks fly in the final two paragraphs of the message. Repeatedly, he asked Americans, “Can we do better?” — a question Robert Kennedy liked to ask in 1968. The answer, clearly, was yes. What followed was nearly unique in the long series of annual messages delivered by presidents in the 19th century. Leaving behind the litany of governance he had just recited, he dug deep and asked Americans to prepare for a complete rethinking of the way they went about their lives:

I aint no political man here, but Lincoln also said, I will not rid this country of firearms, If, We The People do this, Than The People of The United States of America will have no chance of ridding our country of corruption !!!!! Period

I think I may have inadvertently started something. Per the forum rules, lets put this political talk to rest.

Forum Rules said:
2. Controversial Topics
Controversial topics, such as religion, racism, politics, abortion, retardation, etc., are NOT allowed. These topics start out civilized, but over time invariably develop into all out flame wars and heated arguments. Posting “attitudes” need to be kept in a civilized manner.

Hey, I did the same thing. with everything that is going wrong in my life, I tend to over look some things once in a while. I think it's about time to take another break from everything.

I think with everything happening over there you guys deserve somewhere to let out your political frustrations.
Under the circumstances I am sure a slight bending of the rules by the guy that made them is not going to bee seen by other members as a major issue.
I am sure I speak for many others here Tony, as far as I am concerned, vent away to your hearts content. :):)
