We are -7f wind chill.

As for the PC all I need is one card to fulfill the needs of one game at the moment. Something affordable under $200 equal or better than the radion fury. We are not building a dream machine just trying to entertain an 13 year old.

The PSU I believe to be 600watts. As long as it can power rust based off a requirements mentioned by the manufacturer.

All I need is one ATI and one nvidia equivalent. I have not been keeping up with PC technology for a few years so I don't know what's what anymore.

Since I did mention the two ( AMD and nVidia ) cards that are the closest equivalents... I guess your good then and can ignore the other info that was added to it to cover things more.

I like the info it defiantly helps. I just need a down and dirty solution. Back of the napkin style.

Trust me this info will be handy if I decide to build my own rig anytime soon.

Hey Randy, I hear that plenty of 2080s are falling over stone cold dead.
Is that true or a rumour spread by AMD fanboys? :)

All new products have issues after a release, the nVidia 20xx series was no different. Reports from the manufacturers stated that the failure rates were consistent with all other releases and not excessive. The reports of failures were being made by the owners of the cards and I'm sure some fanboy's repeated that just like they always do on both sides... Just like other hype or propaganda, it's best to just ignore that and not promote it.

I'll back Randy up on that one, failure rates were way over exaggerated by people like Gamers Nexus in the beginning. Manufacturer numbers show it right on par with all other releases and sales as far as cards gone bad, and they are taking care of them. GN did come out with a video later stating just that as well. Not trying to throw him under the bus, he was just the first one that came to mind. I think he needs a friggin hair cut, but his info is usually spot on and if it isn't, he corrects it publicly.

Nope, but if you work hard enough, the cold starts to feel okay with a crappy jacket. It's mainly my body becoming numb lmao. Hopefully I'm done working out there though even though it is now 41ºF...

I'm not sure how cold it is by Geena, about 2 hrs south of me but with the wind factor...we're freezing our butts off here too in sunny Florida. No snow but what's sunny about it, LOL

When the reports first started coming in GN ( aka Steve ) mentioned it may not be as big of an issue as it was starting to appear because people do tend to complain loudly and in many places in these situations, he didn't repeat that part often so perhaps it appeared they were exaggerating it from not saying that often. His requesting people to send in their cards in order to see if the causes were consistent would also make it appear they were "stirring the pot". I can't recall when he finally mentioned the info from the manufacturers, but it was after he'd tested several ( tens of units ) cards.

I'm also taking still shots myself but... there is a lot of haze and thin clouds so I'll just have to wait to see if anything good comes from those.

Well... the majority of my shots ended up being out of focus. I'd prefocused before the eclipse and I guess I bumped it so the majority of the shots were bad.

So just after max eclipse, past the full eclipse, I went back out and grabbed a few more, still not as well focused as my first shots, but better than nothing. It was hazy/cloudy here, so some of that is evident in the shot.

So I saw my first ever laptop that I purchased sitting against the wall where my desk used to be. I had the though to get it working again, but couldn't remember what was wrong with it. I know the battery is toast, but what else was bad? So I grabbed it and took it into the office.

I plugged it into the charger and removed the battery and this is one of those computers that automatically turns on when you plug it in for some reason. It is a Windows XP machine from Gateway with a 4:3 screen lmao. You want to talk about taking me back, this is old skewl.

Well, even though I had a power light, it would not power on. I was thinking that maybe the screen cable was broke so I decided to hook it up to the monitor I have in the 'server room' to see if it was outputting anything, and nope. I had already removed and reseated the RAM, Wireless card and HDD. And the HDD is an old IDE lappy drive spinning 4200rpm (if I remember correctly, slow as hell lmao). Well, it still was not turning on.

So in reality I had nothing to lose, so a little percussive maintenance to the bottom of the computer and BOOM, it powered on! HELL YEA!!! :yahoo:

First order of business, remove McAfee and Norton which were always on these old computers and are useless. I had already put the tuning software for my car on this computer and that is what I was going to use this computer for. So it is a clean install, but still has bloatware on it. Now that is all gone and it is installing updates. For those that don't know, XP is EOL and there are no more updates lmao. But it is downloading something lol.

I also need to find a way to get the wireless to start working. I know my router can do the G standard (yea, this lappy is that old! lmao) but for now I had to connect up an ethernet cable to it which is located next to the BUILT IN 56K MODEM!!!! Yea, this thing is so old it has a modem built in. I would try it, but I don't have a phone line in this house lmao.

So it is trying to repair the wireless card, I'm typing this (yes, I'm on the XP lappy right now) in Chrome and I have a few other windows open and this thing is getting HOT lol. It was not made for this kind of work hahaha.

I will post more when I have it working properly. I plan on this being my computer out in the garage since it is the ONLY computer that I have that can run C.A.T.S. which is my tuning software for my car. I can run it in compatibility mode, but that introduces other issues with pulling and uploading files to an old computer in my car. One bad file and that computer is bricked, so I would rather just use an XP machine. And yes, I have other copies of XP that I could put on another, newer, computer but I would rather do it on this computer. Bring back the old days!!!

XP that is old. What its doing is pulling down the last available updates. While it's EOL the update files are still out there.

Yea, I know. Poor little thing is struggling. It has a Centrino CPU lmao. And a whole 2GB of RAM!!! I upgraded it! hahaha

So I have 164 updates for this computer.... Yea, that's a lot. I did have to install the .net framework (one of them) for the wireless to start working, but it is working now so I'm happy about that. Now I just have to wait for this poor little (emphasis on LITTLE lmao) CPU to do the work. This is definitely not a working machine, hell I can out type what it can keep up with with other things running in the background. But it is only using 268MB of RAM lmao. I love XP!
