Todays pictures shows some of the work on the floor and also on the doorframe. As the hinges on the doors are bolted on with tiny brass bolts with a nut on the backside i had to make a cutout in the frame and move it a bit inwards. I used styrene for this job and a little primer would do the final trick.
Did a lot of thinking on how to make the floor. There is quite some space under the floor for electronics or something. So i decided to epoxy 13 x 13 mm wood on each sides of front spar to give more support to the floor. Drilled holes and bolted them on for extra strength.

Used 2 pieces pin-stripe airbrush tape facing the sticky side up and placed them on those woodblocks - its a little stiff so it was easy to manipulate them to be centered on the woodblocks. Then i carefully place the floor on top so the tape would stick to the underside of the floor - this saved me time of measuring and minimizing the risk of making a mistake. So with the tape on the underside of the floor it was easy to measure where to put 4 3mm holes.

I use countersunk stainless 3 mm hex bolts to bolt the floor on. So i put the floor on again and pre-drilled 3 mm holes into the woodblocks. Removed the floor again so i could use a 5 mm drill to make the 4 holes for the threaded bushing inserts. My method of getting exact alignment for the holes worked like a charm. So now i need to find some good material to cover the floor with - something like a rubber mat.
I would also like to make some sort of a raised baseplate for the gyro and receiver maybe also removable, i don't know for sure yet. Still much to consider when it comes to placement of electronics and LiPos.
I would like the covering for the floor to get a few mm up the wall on the inside of the fuselage to hide the little gap between floor and wall.

I hope you all had a nice xmas and i wish you all a happy new year - this was my last post this year. ;0)

And of course a little shot of my workshop tastefully decorated with a little plastic christmas tree and pornlighting - a nice combination.

Man Sweetfrost! Some awesome work on that machine! That baby is going to be show quality! I see some future awards coming for it.
You inspired me so much that I got back into building some of these drag models I've had boxed up for years!

Dont know if its show quality but i sure am going to a few events once its finished. But your modeling is rather cool - the engine is neat. Love detailing like that - keep up the good work and remember to post.

:biggrin-new:

Thank you! It's a 1/25th scale funny car. Those little fittings and plug wires were maddening! Lol
Oh I expect to see some awards for that finely crafted heli! Thank you for sharing that build it is truly awesome!

Hey there Rodney. Mann, you must have hands of steel to mess with those small parts. Winter project I assume, looks good

Thanks Ivan, yeah heli's are hanging on the wall collecting dirt, the wind around here has been blowing non stop, and when it's not I'm working.

Hello everyone. I have not done any building on my project lately because so much has happened here. I got fed up with my work after 11 years as a prison guard that i just quit from one day to the next and was so lucky to be able start on an new education as a electrician (at the age of 45) in the middle of January. So now i'm back on the school bench and i am really enjoying it. So for the next 5 months (first part of school) i got a scholarship and a loan so our economy wont go down the drain. The next step is to find a company that is willing to hire me as an trainee - i am aiming at the offshore (ships and oilrigs) industry. Here in Denmark is should be fairly easy to get a contract as a trainee - there is a huge demand on electricians so i hope i don't have to wait too long.

So what does all this mean to my Robinson R22? Nothing really - other that the break I've have had. I got all electronics and parts - with the rotorblades on the way from Vario. 95 cm long aluminum asymetrical. Cant wait to see and feel them. Only minor things like flooring and some paint and clearcoat - nothing too expensive. Soon i have a week of so i hope to to start building again.

I'll be back soon with some picture.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for the update! i was wondering where ya were!
i have no doubt you'll get work right off, and be a fine electrician! One can see you have a good deal of perfection in your work with your heli, am sure that continues on into your work ethic!
Good luck! And get that bird going!!! :)

Today the mailman delivered a large box - at last the rotorblades arrived. So i made a little unboxing photoshoot. And damn they are nice !!

They are 95 cm long and 7,6 cm wide.
Profile thickness: 6.5 mm
Weight: 480 g each.
Root thickness: 22 mm - one hole.

Bin on the lookout for something i could use to cover the plywood-floor and went to a hardware store to see if they had something useful. They had several options .. including self adhesive covering foil in all sort of colors and patterns bud they did also have adhesive checker/diamond-plate (i think its called in English). But it was too shiny to my taste so i went for a complete different option. Right next to all those foils there was a something that caught my eyes - a greyish oilcloth - you know .. this fabric you can use on your table. It was very cheap so i rushed home with this cloth and was super exited to see if was something i could use.
Cut a piece that was ruffly overlapping with 1 cm on the plywood and gave the plywood a thin layer of epoxy and carefully put the cloth on top of it making sure there was no air bubbles underneath - put another piece of plywood on top of it with some heavy stuff on it and let it set until next morning. The result was better than i hoped for - it has the right texture to it and similar color as the metal frame. Just a few building-days more with adjustment on the main fuselage and doors i will be ready to do the rest of the riveting.

Wow! I am most impressed. The Vario ships are very nice and I would love to build one, but they are way above my flying skills at this point.
