As Randy stated, Dual rates and Expo are 100% user preference. Some people absolutely cannot fly with expo which can make the beginning or end of the stick travel feel sluggish. With FBL units you can actually tune them inside the program and just keep the radio linear. Just remember, when setting up, always do it at 100% travel then use the DR/Expo after finishing setup. Sucks about the crash! Been there too many times!

Hey guys, I may be able to explain my second crash.
It was an inspection failure on my part. Shame, SHAME!!...
Ok, after my first crash because of bad expo settings and such, I did not overhaul the three cyclic servos. I moved them back and forth and they were all still working so I just replaced the linkages and a few other things. Then I checked the pitch settings and all seemed well. It was still on the money. But trouble still lurks in the shadows of the servos. I did overhaul 2 of the three cyclic servos and I'm currently waiting for the third gear kit to come in. As it is now, the #1 servo lags behind the other two and sometimes doesn't stop where it should. Also it can't be centered.
I'll just bet that that's what caused the nose to pitch up so fast like it did. . :shame:

Certainly sounds possible. These Align servos for me at least are usually pretty tough.
Yes they are, those two crashes took their toll on those babies but I think I can get her fly'n good again. The last crash bent the swash plate.. I was very surprised the feathering shaft wasn't bent..
I'll be watching for the slop after the last servo is rebuilt. If all checks out there, I'll just set up the heads geometry. And I'll be ready to crash her all over again, ha! ... :chuckles:

Guys, I got my final cyclic gear set today. I installed them already and they seem good butttt,,, ok it subtrims fine now and the movement seems fine, but, when I put my finger on the other two servo cases, no vibrations, very smooth. Now when I put my finger on the one I just rebuilt, it vibrates when moved.
Question: is there a break in period with some of the new gear sets?
Again, it seems to be functioning ok.

With no power to the servo and if you try to move it by hand, does it feel smooth then? Is it the elevator servo that vibrates or one of the aileron servos?

Last night it was moving smooth by hand. But today its feels gritty again. It's the #1 elevator servo. Note this is the one that bent the swashplate. Or is it Vis versa... Could the motors pinion be damaged?

I use the Futaba stuff, takes very little tho...
Is the Futaba stuff more of a light grease or a tacky oil?
I cleaned out the gears with a good cleaner and dried with compressed air. Then I used a oil I got for my Scorpion motor, (I don't use that motor now). After oiling the bearings and gears, she's way better. So I installed it back on the aircraft. The vibration problem with the servo was simply it wasn't mounted. When mounted, everything's fine.

Hey guys, I want to center my tail servo better but I forgot how I did it the first time. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I can only do this with the TX sub trim, right?? I can't find a way to do it with the Beast..
What do you guys think?

You would NOT use sub trim. After you pick your Rudder servo center pulse, I believe is 1520? At that point you put your servo horn on as close to 90 as you can get. Then your servo end points are set. In a perfect world you would adjust the rudder control rod so that the tail slider is centered. Most fly in heading hold these days so the mechanical setup doesn't matter as much anymore. I still fly in rate mode, so I have to get the mechanical setup right. It's in the manual.
