I just straight up hate blue. And purple.
Funny thing however is that teal is my favorite color. Something about blue gives me headaches and I've gone through great lengths to eradicate it from my decor as well as from my computer desktop. Teal + Coral = win in my book.
That said, make that heli look good Tony. Do it up whatever colors you like. If you get an unpainted canopy and airbrush it, that is just one more instructional video for the forum.

I feel this may be going a bit fast. Do we believe that those who wants to donate has gotten the chance to do so? I mean, we might be underestimating the members economical power here - the potential to reach maybe $600? Who knows...
Once the bird is bought and the bird's still missing critical parts, peoples motivation for donating might drop. Then again, this might also be the case when reaching for the big bucks - that people feel the goal is impossible. But seeing how well this has gone, I have to believe there's more to be donated.
I'm sure this Align nitro can be a good one, but I haven't seen any estimate on what the additional part will cost?

Is it going a bit fast? Yes it is. Will we have another chance to purchase $1200+ worth of helicopter for $350? Very doubtful. But, what the members say is what I will do. If the members want to hold off, then that is what I will do. As for the remaining cost of everything else, that depends on the deal. However, I do not see us raising $600+ for a "better" helicopter. Hell, I didn't think we would get $300. Ah well, you guys say what you want us to do and that is what we will do. I will call Gaba tomorrow and tell him to not call the hobby shop to put the heli on hold.

How much will servos cost?
How much will a starter cost?
How much will a Rx cost?
What's included, what's not?
I don't want to be a "stickler" (or what you call it), and I do trust Gaba's deal hunter instinct - but I feel I don't understand what you're going to buy? Remember, I don't know squat about nitros....

It's all good bro. This helicopter will come with the heli kit (built), FBL & FB head, a $350 engine that Gaba runs, 3 canopies, Blades (most 600's don't come with blades, and they are about $100 a pair for a 600), 3GX gyro and Gaba said he would toss in an onboard igniter and LiFe battery. He also has a shaft that I can use with a drill to start it, but as stated by Gaba, a drill has so much torque it can destroy the engine if it floods. He says he can get fuel for $18 a gallon which is very cheap, but the cost of me going down there to get that deal makes it not worth it.
Just the heli, blades, gyro, head, canopies and engine are worth well over a grand. The servos are probably going to run about $150 for all 5 of them (3 cyclic, 1 throttle, 1 tail) if we can find a good enough deal. Rx, not a problem, it's a 3Gx, I will just run two satellites provided by myself. I will also be providing the Telemetry module to keep track of the temp and voltage while flying.
If we get the starter that Gaba is using now, it's about $100 and is the best starter out there. It's made by Align and made just for this job. Fuel will be the most expensive product on this thing because its a consumable product.
There will be other changes to this over time as well to make it the way we want it. New skids (which are on backwards in that picture), new blades, new anodizing on the aluminum and so on. I will also be doing a custom paint job on the canopy if/when we get it.
All in all, this deal is pretty decent.

So for a total of about $580 this heli will be in the air. This is all dependent apon there not being much wrong with it such as bearings, pipe gears and so on.
But as I have stated, this is the members choice. I would love to just go for it, but I can't. If the members say no, then we will walk on down the road and find something else that may or may not be better. It's one of the "is the grass greener on the other side" sort of deals.

I do think this is a great deal. If we could sell the 3G gyro (if that is what is actually has, and not the 3GX) and purchase the 7200BX or whatever the Rx/Gyro is from spektrum, then that is what we will do. Lee has that Rx I believe and I have heard nothing but good things about it. I have been searching around and I have yet to find anything even close to this price. I in all honesty think this is the deal that we need to jump on. Even without the servos, it's a bitchin deal. I have talked extensively with Gaba and he thinks the same.
I should have a little bit of "burn money" at the end of the month. Sucks being a government employee and only getting paid once a month. I will talk more with Gaba on this when I wake up. Jesse is going to the store again today and is going to look at the gyro (I think). If not, I will have Gaba ask him when he calls him today.

I'm thinking we should go for this deal. Think of it like this. If we bought the new chaos, it's $600 plus the motor, pipe, and miss. Parts and pieces. It as a flybar head. Buy the time it's all said and done we could have well over $1000.00 in it. With the Align we can have it flying for around $600. I personally don't think in theses times the membership will contribute over a grand for a bird. So lets get the align and we could be up and flying in a few weeks.

Hi Tony; I have been paying for My Helicopter stuff with My Private Pilot gear that's been sitting around ! I sold 2 head sets & intercom system in six hours on the Radio! Only took that long because the guy was working! Next week on the Radio I'm going to sell My Garmin GPS 195 Yoke mount Charging unit & computer USB Data backup cables carrying case Only for $100 It a steal of a deal! Any one on the site interested ! ? Looks like it was never used works great! If it sells I will donate the $100 for the New Helicopter! Don't really have any cash but a few things to sell has been helping me in My new RC Hobby! Been keeping the charge card down! Also keeps the Wife Happy!
