Good job man!! Keep it up!! :) lower next time!! ;)

Fly safe!! :) have fun!

Thanks :D
I'll keep at it until I crash or cut grass/snow!

Dayum dude, and people tell me I need to lay off the coffee lmao. You are banging those sticks like they are going out of style.

Great flying either way. Looks like you have a good handle on that bird. Maybe one of these days I can get my bird back and join you in ripping up the skys.

Thanks. I'll leave you some clouds to rip ;)

Great flying we all hope to have a good handle on our birds as you marius. You make us set goals so someday we can do what you do man.

Thanks, I really appreciate that.

sweet flying i can do all that on my sims lol

Thanks :D
Sim is great practice - then try IRL!

___________

I have really been hitting the sim lately, doing maybe 2-3 hours a week. I know I say it a lot, but the sim is an invaluable tool for any pilot.

Had my first "real" crash today... :(

I have swapped out a few tail gears and some trinkets before, but I've never really CRASHED the 450 - until today. NO, I did not get it on video. I was flying at my ramp like I usually do - there was a bit of wind, but nothing I haven't tackled before. I was on a roll, feeling like a boss.

Usually I never try new tricks IRL unless I have trained a lot on the sim first, but today though - like I said, I was on a roll. I was doing low, small loops, with the bird flying towards me (nose in, sort of). I had a blast playing with the wind, flying into it, letting it lift the bird high up - then dive backwards back to the ground.

I did this over and over - soon I felt so comfortable I was playing with the tail at the back drop, making the bird come out of the loop sideways while diving down. Well no, I have never trained on this in the sim, but I thought I knew what I was doing. THEN, for some reason - I'm still not sure what went wrong, dumb thumbed it I guess - when coming out of the loop sideways, I lost it... I had lost the orientation, and was fighting to regain it. When it was two feet above ground (still plummeting), I realize it's up-side-down and tail-left. But it was too late.

The bird smacked into the snow covered field (hard icy snow). The motor continued to buzz for a small second before I flicked the TH. I ran down to the crash site - the servos was still buzzing, or shall I say rattling.......

CRAP!

Both mains are totaled.

Main shaft bend to hell and back.

Feathering shaft bent.

Blade grip arm totaled. The threading was ripped out!
P1010797.JPG

Main gear lost a few teeth.
P1010798.JPG

ALL three of my BRAND NEW DS415m's are stuck... I'm still figuring out if they are totaled, or just need gears.

I'm looking at about 100 bucks in repairs...

______

Regarding video, I shall soon have a action camera with all the necessary equipment (including a head strap). When I get it, I shall start shooting all my flights - just in case something interesting happens.

Dude, that sucks!!! At least you are brave enough to go outside and fly. It's around 15 degrees here...too cold for me.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Hope you can get it fixed easily.

Crap dude, thats not cool. If you find the servos are dead, I may be selling a brand new set of Savox servos. I think i bought the wrong ones for my warp, but they are the best for a 450.

Super Mod & DEAL KING!

Dude, that sucks.

I guess it's all part of flying, not if your gonna crash, just when. The simple idea of what you were doing when you crashed boggles my mind, I can still barely bring myself to do sport flying with my blade 400, my MCPx is for crashing, the reason it's sitting in the office with it's second totaled frame waiting for the LHS to get one in stock.

Congratulations Marius, you finally had your first real crash. Not backing into a sign or tipping it over on the landing pad, but a REAL crash. So you got the first one out of the way, your nerves are going to be rattled but you just have to work through it and this will make you a better pilot (if that is possible lmao).

Sucks about all of the damage, but now you can order multiples of all of them and have them on hand. Make sure to check the tail gears really well as well as looking at the tail boom. They are very thin and usually bend in the lightest of crashes.

Head up bro, we have all been there.

Thanks bro. 15°F is around my limit, any colder and I do not fly.

Thanks Lee. I'm salvaging two of the servos and getting a new third one.

Thanks Gaba. Yes, all the servos had stripped or faulty gears... Live and learn!

I have been waiting for a solid crash for a long time - had to happen sooner or later. I tried flying a small heli (Nine Eagles 125) the other day, I can't say it performed like I wanted it to - a bit under powered for my taste. If I was to get a small bird, I'd imagine it had to be a 130X.

Sorry bout that, I would be crying after something like that.

Thanks bro.

Yes, I also believe there is some knowledge and experience to get from a crash - but still, I hope it's not going to be a regular thing :D I have checked the boom ant tail gears, they seem to be intact.

Well, that sure sucks but it had to happen sooner or later, as many have said, it is part of the deal....I am still waiting for my real crash, just hope I can fly as many times as you did before having to land the bad way. Cheer up Marius, you have the skills to do all the fixing and the will to go back in the air without trembling (unless is cuz of the cold temperature). Speaking of which, here in Santiago, Chile, extreme temperatures vary from luckily 1degree C in winter, and exceptionally, 33 degrees C in summer....hu hu.

33ºF-91ºF. Man, I would love to have that kind of temps. Here in Oklahoma, we range from -10ºFto 110ºF+. or -23ºc to 43ºc.

You guys are making me want to fly something...

Sorry to here about the crash Marius. Don't feel too bad. My last crash cost me almost $300.00 to repair and I still need a canopy. I bought a plain wight one that I plan on painting myself. When I get the ambition. Lol. That's what scared me out of flying my bird last summer. But now I'm putting the FBL head on it and I just bought a NAZA H with GPS for her. I should be able to fly her now! Hell she should fly all buy herself with the NAZA!! Ha ha he he!

Thanks :D The spare parts are on their way, so she'll be back in the sky in no time! I hope you get many, many flights before you crash - the trick is not to advance too quickly (at least that's my experience).

Yeah. We should all move to Chile :D :) I can only dream about those kinda temperatures until maybe July...

Thanks Sam. Nah, I'm not taking it that hard - I did get a bunch of flights before it happened, so it's OK. But i DO hope it's gonna be a while to next time ;) You gotta keep us updated on the DJI FBL system - you're sort of the RCH DJI test pilot LOLZ :D

What a downer, i would be in tears and probably will when it happens to me:(

Yeah, it sucks - but you just gotta wipe of those tears and continue doing what you love :D Hope you have a "crash free year" LOL

At Lee's recommendation I went ahead and got my first quad :D It's the same unit he got he's wife later back (different canopy). It's great fun!

Gonna upload some flight with this baby soon (just gotta let the GF cool down LOL - she's tired of it buzzing around her head LOLOLOL :D )

Also, got my baby good to go again after last weekends mishap (stripped a tail gear).

I've gotten some feedback that I should maybe start a new thread (this one's getting a bit big), but I think I'm gonna continue with it too keep my timeline consistent. I know some new members actually read through the entire thing! :D But do advise if you believe "chapter 2" is in order - and I will comply if it's the general opinion.

Thanks for checking in :D
